Just before the 1st T20I between India and England, pacer Mohammed Shami was seen warming-up, giving hopes to the fans, that he would finally make a comeback in the national side. But then, that did not happen. Similar was the case before the 2nd T20I, where many expected Shami would play. But once again, he was ignored, that raised the speculation, that the bowler was not fully fit. But then, just like the two other unfit players in the squad — Nitish Reddy and Rinku Singh, the BCCI did not remove him from the team.
Mohammed Shami Fit, But Might Have to Wait
In short, there remains a lot of confusion if Shami is fit or not. In fact, Piyush Chawla, after looking at the pre-match visuals said, that Shami might not be fully fit, as he was limping. “If you see the run-up, he (Shami) is still limping a bit. The main target should be the Champions Trophy and getting fit for that. Lots of matches in this series, even if he misses a few games, that is okay,” Chawla told the host broadcaster.
Childhood Coach Confirms..
But then, Mohammed Shami’s childhood coach Badruddin, seems to have confirmed RevSportz, that his ward is fully fit, and might play in the last two matches of the series. “He (Shami) called me before going to Kolkata for the first T20I and told me that everything was fine,” Badruddin told RevSportz. “His fitness is absolutely fine. I think they (the team management) are building his load at the moment, as he was out of the international set-up for more than a year. I also think that they will play him in the last two T20Is before the ODI series followed by the Champions Trophy. The team management is the best judge. I hope there’s a clear communication between the coach (Gautam Gambhir) and Shami in this regard.”
