A fresh chapter has started for the Punjab Kings (PBKS). Going with Rs 110.50 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction, PBKS rebuild their entire squad for the new season. With IPL 2024 winning skipper Shreyas Iyer at the helm, PBKS can surely be perfect dark horses for IPL 2025. However, PBKS’ first buy of the season came when they bought back Arshdeep Singh for Rs 18 crore.

In an exclusive conversation with JioHotstar, India’s rising left-arm pacer Arshdeep opened up about his rapid rise in T20 cricket, crediting his success to a relentless pursuit of improvement. But what caught our attention was his glowing praise for Punjab Kings’ new captain, Shreyas Iyer, who was bought for a whopping Rs 26.75 crore.
Arshdeep, who has become an integral part of India’s T20 setup, has been impressed by Iyer’s leadership style, which he believes is a key factor in Punjab Kings’ quest for their maiden IPL title. Winning IPL 2025 is on the wishlist for Arshdeep, who wants an open-bus parade in Chandigarh after the triumph.
“I’ve played with Iyer before, under his captaincy in the Duleep Trophy, and I really enjoyed it,” Arshdeep revealed. “He always backed his players and gave them the freedom to express themselves. What I’ve noticed here is that his approach remains the same – he doesn’t impose rigid instructions but encourages players to trust their skills and play for the team.”
Arshdeep’s admiration for Iyer’s captaincy is evident, and he believes that this approach will bring out the best in the Punjab Kings players. “He promotes a selfless approach, assuring full backing to the players. I truly admire this mindset, and as players, we will do our best to support him.”
With 99 T20I wickets to his name, Arshdeep is already the highest-wicket-taking bowler for India in the history of the format. In the IPL as well. Since IPL 2023, Arshdeep has taken 38 wickets, the seventh-most in this period. This is despite him being PBKS’s go-to bowler under every captain.
