There is no doubt that Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has completely transformed the Indian T20I team, and we are seeing the results. Since SKY became captain, India hasn’t lost a single series, securing dominant wins against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, South Africa, and, most recently, England.
Recently, at the BCCI Awards 2025 red carpet, Suryakumar Yadav reflected on his catch of David Miller, which helped the Indian team clinch the ICC T20 World Cup, ending their trophy drought. SKY spoke about how the new T20I team is looking fresh. Also he shared his views on the upcoming ICC tournament, as India is set to play the T20 World Cup next year. And despite not being in India’s squad for the Champions Trophy, he shared his thoughts on the team’s attitude and how he looks forward to the challenges ahead.
Suryakumar Yadav on David Miller’s catch
“I’m really happy and proud, and at the same time, grateful for that moment. When the ball went in the air, I just wanted to push it back inside the boundary, maybe save two or four runs. But being in that 15-22 second moment completely changed my life, and it’s one of the greatest moments of my career.”
Suryakumar Yadav on current T20I team
“We’ve decided to play a fearless brand of cricket, no matter the situation. In T20s, the game is over in a blink, so everyone must have their own plan, but we all need to be on the same page. If we want to do something special, change the way T20 cricket is played, we have to go out and express ourselves.” Along with this, SKY also shared his views on the upcoming challenges, whether it’s the Champions Trophy or the T20 World Cup 2026. Although he won’t be part of the Champions Trophy 2025, when it comes to the T20 World Cup, he and his new, fresh team will look to get things done once again.
“Let’s do what we did just 8–9 months back in Barbados. Let’s be ourselves. We keep doing what we’ve been doing. This side has put in a lot of hard work over the past year. Just enjoy, be in the moment, and be yourself.“
