India’s pacer Akash Deep gained a lot of fame in 2024. He made his debut for India in red-ball cricket against England and quickly became an important pacer in the IND vs AUS series. Akash Deep credits his success in red-ball cricket to India’s star batter Virat Kohli. Both players play for the same IPL franchise, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Akash Deep believes that it was Virat Kohli who advised the bowlers to also focus on red-ball cricket along with limited overs format, which he took with him.
Akash Deep on Virat Kohli’s advice on red ball cricket
Akash Deep shared an incident with a YouTube channel, Sports Launchpad by Saurav Yaduvanshi, where he mentioned that in 2022, Virat Kohli advised the bowlers to focus on red-ball cricket if they want to play for India in the future. “During the 2022 IPL, I was having breakfast with Virat Kohli. He then said that India will need red-ball pacers in the future. You should also think about that. I wasn’t even thinking of red-ball cricket, but that’s when I started focusing on it.” Akashdeep said.
Akash Deep believes that Virat Kohli is a chill guy. “Virat gave me the debut cap for RCB, then I started taking it. I used to ask him about the game and his advice.“ he added.
