The middle-order batter, who will be leading the side in the tour in the absence of Pat Cummins, suffered an injury scare during the BBL after copping a blow to his elbow. However, he was cleared by a specialist and will link up with the rest of the side in Dubai to resume batting in nets after two days.

As per ESPNCricinfo, Smith revealed that the blow to his elbow felt similar to the time when he ruptured his ligament in 2019. The Aussie batter breathed a sigh of relief as scans showed that his ligament was intact, revealing that he had gotten a bit of muscle damage.
“Straight away I thought ‘oh jeez, that hurt’. That was a similar sort of feeling to when I ruptured my ligament back in 2019, so I was a little bit worried for a little bit. But scans showed fortunately my ligament is still intact, the one that I got repaired. I’ve got a little bit of muscle damage, and it’s a small millimetre of the ligament on the bone that’s doing something,” Smith said.

The Australian skipper for the SL series said that he would be comfortable batting, adding that he would have to put a tape on it. The Australian squad, including Smith, arrived in Dubai on Tuesday. They will prepare at the ICC Academy to get familiar with the conditions they are expected to face in Sri Lanka. Australia have named a spin-heavy squad for the upcoming series and will be gearing up for a sub-continental challenge after handing India a 3-1 thrashing back at home.
