Despite being just 21 years old, everyone wanted her to make a strong statement with her performances and that is exactly what the batting sensation has been doing. After a successful domestic campaign, Shafali turned the heat up in the Delhi Capitals’ opening WPL 2025 clash against the Mumbai Indians (MI). Opening the batting alongside captain Meg Lanning, Shafali blunted a blazing knock that saw her smack 22 runs in a single over.

Shafali Verma lit up the powerplay with a breathtaking knock, sending the Mumbai Indians bowlers on a leather hunt before falling for a scintillating 43 off just 18 deliveries. Her innings was nothing short of an utter dominance, studded with seven boundaries and two towering sixes. She took on the bowlers from the outset, ensuring that Delhi Capitals got off to a flyer in their chase.
The highlight of her innings was undoubtedly the 22-run carnage she unleashed on Saika Ishaque in the second over. After a watchful start, Shafali decided to impose herself on the left-arm spinner, stepping down the track to deposit the second ball into the stands for a maximum. What followed was an onslaught that left Ishaque rattled. A flick past mid-on, a lofted drive over extra cover, and a fierce cut past point—all raced to the boundary in quick succession. To cap off the over, Shafali got a thick edge that flew past the fielders and rolled into the ropes, making it a brutal introduction to the game for Ishaque.
